11 people perished in a road accident Tuesday morning after a Nissan matatu they were traveling in collided head on with a bus at Salgaa on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
According to Deputy Traffic Commandant Samuel Kimaru, 10 passengers died on the spot while the other succumbed to injuries at the Nakuru Provincial Hospital.
Speaking to KBC on phone, Kimaru said the matatu driver was speeding at the time of the accident and was trying to overtake a trailer when he lost control hitting the trailer before colliding head on with an oncoming bus.
The deputy traffic commandant said the area is a black spot and cautioned motorists to adhere to traffic rules to avoid loss of life.
The accident happened in the wake of recently enacted road safety rules which have rubbed stakeholders in the matatu sector the wrong way.
