We are our own men, say two ODM activists

Share/Save/Bookmark Two ODM members who moved to court seeking to expel rebel MPs have refuted claims that they were sponsored by the party secretariat. Mpuri Aburi and Kepher Odongo yesterday told journalists that they are their own men. They said neither the Prime Minister Raila Odinga nor any other top party official is behind their court case.
However, they said the party top leadership supports their action since ODM’s NEC met and approved to support it. They said that their action is motivated by respect for constitutionalism and rule of law and were seeking to end impunity in political parties. They two moved to court through lawyer Cecil Miller seeking a ruling to have five MPs ejected from ODM.
They want MPs William Ruto, Isaac Rutto, Aden Duale, Charles Keter and Joshua Kutuny stripped of their seats for allegedly violating the Political Parties Act. “We took this action because the five party wreckers have, for more than two years, been engaged in activities intended to weaken and destroy ODM. Indeed, they have repeatedly hurled insults at both ODM and our party leader,” Mpuri said.
