The party’s national executive council and Parliamentary group approved the change.
The new symbol will be an umbrella with three colours — sky blue, white and earth red.
“The sky blue stands for the future, white for peace and earth red for the aspirations, excitement and vibrancy of Kenyans,” said Justice Minister Mutula Kilonzo, the party’s secretary-general.
Mr Kilonzo said the party lost a lot of votes in 2007 because of confusion created by the use of almost similar orange symbols with Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM.
At a meeting attended by its leader and Vice-President, Mr Kalonzo Musyoka, the party also agreed to review its constitution to adhere to the new dispensation on gender parity.
“We want to be among the first to move with the new Constitution,” Mr Kilonzo said.
Party chairman Francis Chahonyo said Mr Musyoka, the party’s presidential candidate, had been given the green light to set up a campaign secretariat.
