Federal Party of Kenya leader Cyrus Jirongo has told President Uhuru Kenyatta not to take lightly the vote of no confidence motion against him by Cord over teachers’ salary impasse.
Jirongo on Saturday said Deputy President William Ruto might take advantage of the impeachment bid against Uhuru.
Jirongo said the constitution states that if the President is impeached, the Deputy President automatically takes over as President.
He said Ruto knows the only way he can “help himself out of the Hague” is to become the President.
“I want to tell my good friend Uhuru for free that the arrogant attitude of ‘can’t pay won’t pay’ might lead him to trouble,” Jirongo said.
He spoke at Matili in Kimilili constituency during the funeral of Loise Mwangale.
Last Thursday, Cord co-principal Moses Wetang’ula said the coalition has instructed its MPs to prepare a motion to impeach the President for defying the court order to pay teachers a 50-60 per cent salary increase. Jirongo said Ruto has over 70 MPs in Parliament, and he has taken all the Amani MPs from the Western region.
The former Lugari MP urged the President to respect the court order and pay teachers.
Jirongo who has declared he will be vying for Presidency in 2017 said the President cannot tell Kenyans there is no money since the construction of the standard gauge railway is going on.
