Police on Monday stopped more than 1,000 Maasai women from entering Isinya town to attack alleged husband snatchers.
Police said according to intelligence reports, the women had been ferried on trucks from Keekonyokie location in Kajiado West constituency and the Kaputiei Plains in Kajiado East.
This was the second time the women stormed into the town.
Last week, a group of them stormed into bars and beat up women employees, accusing them of snatching their husbands.
Isinya subcounty community policing chairman James Olowuasa yesterday said the women destroyed beer and property worth Sh30 million in the last week attack. Olowuasa said he lost more than Sh600,000 when his Farmer’s Bar and Restaurant was raided by the women.
Two of his women employees were injured and are still admitted in hospital.
On Monday, the Kajiado County Security Council dispatched three police trucks with officers to Isinya town at 8am to keep vigil.
By 11am, the first batch of the women armed with sticks arrived in the town singing war songs.
A senior police officer told the Star they received information the women would be ferried to the town.
Olowuasa said he coordinated with the OCS and other intelligence officers to stop the women from causing further damage.
The women said their husbands and sons keep concubines in the town and are rarely seen at home.
They threatened to beat up all the barmaids, women who work in hair salons and M-Pesa outlets because they believe they are being supported by their husbands.
Mary Tuitoek, one of the protesting women, said: “I only see my husband once a week. Where do you think he goes all the other days? Our children want to see their father but he is nowhere. Do you want us to sit back as other women enjoy our men?”
Maasai elders have condemned the women’s action and urged Kajiado Governor David Nkedianye to intervene.
Nkedianye promised to meet the women and elders today to resolve the matter.
