NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 21 – Pastor James Ng’ang’a has been freed on a bond of Sh1million with a similar surety by a Limuru Court, after he denied charges of causing death by dangerous driving.
The preacher can alternatively pay a cash bail of Sh500,000 to secure his release from police custody.
Senior Resident Magistrate Timothy ole Tanchu also freed the evangelist’s three co-accused on bonds of Sh100,000 with a similar surety each or Sh50,000 cash bails in the alternative.
Tanchu ruled that the reasons given by the State when opposing bail were not compelling.
He pointed out that pastor Ng’ang’a had cooperated with investigators and was not a flight risk.
The magistrate also ruled that he was not likely to be a danger to any witness in the case, and that those who will testify had already given their statements to the police.
Pastor Ng’ang’a is accused of causing death through dangerous driving, giving false information to the police, conspiring to defeat justice and failing to report an accident.
Simon Kuria on the other hand has denied giving false information to the police while Inspector Christopher Nzioka rebutted claims he neglected his duties.
Another police officer, Patrick Baya also denied charges of neglecting his duties.
On Thursday night thugs raided his Karen home and took away cash and other valuables.
