The National Intelligence Service officer killed in Buru Buru on Sunday had been on a drinking spree for five hours before his death.
Anthony Kimathi was killed by a mob that mistook him for a criminal after he attempted to control traffic on Kayole Road.
Yesterday, details of his last moments emerged after police questioned a bank employee who was in the same car with Kimathi and his colleague.
Everard Mugambi, who drove the car Kimathi was using, told police they were heading to Ongata Rongai for more beer when they met the hostile crowd near Kisumu Ndogo, Buru Buru.
He said the mob asked them to identify themselves.
