Ikemefuna Chinedum "I.K." Enemkpali (born July 3, 1991) is an American footballlinebacker who is a free agent. He was drafted by the New York Jets in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He playedcollege football at Louisiana Tech.
Early years
Enemkpali was born in Pflugerville, Texas toNigerian immigrants.[1] He attendedPflugerville High School in Texas. Enemkpali was selected to the All-District 25-5A first team and all-Central Texas third team by the American Statesman.[2] He had 64 Tackles and 14 sacks in his senior season in high school.[2]
College career
Enemkpali attended Louisiana Tech University from 2009 to 2013. He was selected to the 2012 First Team All-WAC and All-Louisiana First Team in his junior season. He was named as the 2012 Fred Dean Defensive Player of the Year in junior season. He was selected 2013 First Team All-Conference USA and All-Louisiana First Team following his senior season. He was selected as the 2013 Willie Roaf Lineman of the Year in his senior season.[2]
Professional career
New York Jets
Enemkpali was selected by the New York Jetsin the sixth round (210th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.[3] In his rookie season, he appeared in 6 games, making 3 tackles and defending 2 passes.
Enemkpali was released on August 11, 2015, after he broke quarterback Geno Smith's jaw in a locker room altercation.[4][5]
Personal life
When Enemkpali was 19, he punched a police officer during a bar fight before being subdued with pepper spray and a stun gun. Enemkpali was later charged with simple battery, placed on 13 months' probation, and ordered to complete 32 hours of community service and an anger-management course.[6]
Enemkpali's sister, Nneka Enemkpali, was abasketball player for the Texas Longhorns2011-15 and was selected by the Seattle Storm in the 2015 WNBA Draft in the third round as the twent sixth overall pick).[7]
