Get better advisers on Uganda sugar deal, MP tells Uhuru

By Joy Chelagat, Citizen Digital

Uhuru Museveni
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been told to look for better economists who will advise him on alternative ways of tackling Kenya’s sugar deficit.
Ugenya MP David Ochieng made these remarks in reference to the contested Uganda sugar deal that President Kenyatta struck with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni earlier this week.
Ochieng expressed fears that Kenyan sugar factories are on the verge of collapsing, and the Kenya-Uganda sugar deal would worsen an already dire situation.

Siaya Deputy Governor Wilson Ouma Onyango said that the government should invest in improving the growth of the local companies instead of importing products that can be produced locally.
The two were speaking at a rally in Sega where they were campaigning for ODM’s candidate, Shaban Omar, ahead of the North Ugenya by-elections.
Omar’s campaign was also attended by Siaya Senator James Orengo, Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo and Siaya MCAs lead by the Deputy Speaker Stephen Kadera.
The campaigns in North Ugenya will end on Sunday and both Jubilee and Cord are expected to hold mega rallies across the region.
