President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Former Speaker Francis Ole Kaparo the chairman of National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and named five others as commissioners.
The five are Belinda Akoth, Irene Wanyoike, Adan Abdi, Roba Sharamo, Joseph Nasongo, Morris Dzoro and Gitile Naituli.
The six were appointed from a list of 15 nominees, who were approved by the National Assembly in July after 32 applicants were interviewed.
The term of the Mzalendo Kibunjia-led commissioners expired in September last year, but the government has been reluctant to make fresh appointments on the grounds that the law is too weak and requires strengthening.
Kaparo, who was Deputy President William Ruto's URP party chairman, becomes the latest of Jubilee's strongmen to get a public appointment after getting nothing in the first wave of postings.
He was initially linked to the position of Speaker of the Senate, but was bypassed and Ekwe Ethuro given the position.
