PRESIDENT Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday snubbed a much publicised Iftar dinner in South Coast and a funds drive ceremony where members of public had turned out in large numbers.
Uhuru had toured Taita Taveta county and was to attend a funds drive at Mwanguda primary school in Lunga Lunga, Kwale county, where disappointed citizens started walking out of the venue moments after realizing the president was not coming.
The president was to officially launch the tarmacking of Samburu-Kinango-Kwale road but since the project is not ready, governor Mvurya asked the president to attend the fund drive.
“But due to unavoidable circumstances, he had to go back to Nairobi and sent me to represent him. He said he will come back here,” said Balala at Mwanguda primary school.
“The important thing is development and since we are here on his behalf nothing has gone wrong,” Balala said before presenting a Sh5 million donation from Uhuru.
Balala also sent the same message to Muslim clerics and faithful at Leisure Lodge where the Iftar dinner was to take place. At the dinner, the disappointed Muslim community told Uhuru in absentia that he should safeguard their rights and interests.
However, Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya organizing secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa lauded Uhuru for showing a good example by feasting with Muslims across the country. He said such a move shows he is not discriminating Muslims in the country. He told him to remain steadfast in his leadership.
