President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed former permanent secretaries to a six-member panel that will select candidates to fill vacancies at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The selection panel includes former education permanent secretaries Prof Karega Mutahi and Prof George Godia.
Others are former Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) chairman Joseph Chirchir, John Kipkorir, Esther Muhanji and Jean Njeri Muhoho.
TSC currently has three commissioners only. They are Prof Salome Gichura, Ms Saadia Kontoma and Mr Cleophas Tirop.
It needs six more commissioners to meet the constitutional requirement of nine.
Knut had last week given the Education Cabinet Secretary a seven-day ultimatum to reconstitute TSC and fill vacant positions in the commission.
The union had said it would declare a trade dispute, which would escalate into a strike, should Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi fail to meet their demand.
