Uhuru And Ruto Gambling With Kenya's Safety

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Ruto.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President Ruto.
Those feeling insecure like me, who see Jubilee taking for granted the peace that Kenya has all along enjoyed and who have no palatial villas and investments out of Kenya, you must be a worried lot. Worried because the two gentlemen, who came to power through ‘digital gimmicks’, are playing ‘Pata Potea’ with the lives of more than 40 million Kenyans. The effect of their poor leadership has been felt in all corners of this once good country.
The besieged wananchi, all the way from Border Point One in Mandera, Mkunumbi; the home of ‘waungwana’ in Lamu, Vanga in Kwale, Busia, Lorengipi in the rich land of Giturkana and Butiye and the beautiful landscape of Moyale, have crossed their fingers and are looking upward for miracle so they and their off spring can sleep peacefully even for a night.
Folks; the ‘digitalism’ that these two gentlemen smartly slipped into our psyche is nothing but a disaster that has translated into mysterious killings, fear of the unknown, empty rhetoric and misplaced announcements intended to divide Kenyans more on the basis of cheap politics and myopic tribal compartmentalisation. Sadly the terror inflicted upon Kenya by the UFO-like entities continue unabated with the security machinery almost instantly spewing out puzzling and conflicting theories on those behind the mayhem keeping the poor Kenyan miserable in places like Lamu.
What hurts us more is the lip service that the hyped Jubilee government is offering to insecurity. In places like Lamu, millions of taxpayers’ money is being wasted on too many askaris driving on the Lamu-Tana River road with no strategic and tactical approach to handle a gang that has been mystified for a reason best known to the Jubilee junta.
The gang could otherwise be tracked and neutralised on foot by just a platoon of dedicated soldiers with the right armament and logistical back-up.
Blind bombardment of the Boni fauna and flora and the arbitrary arrest of ‘wenye nchi’, whose only crime is to ask for their undeniable rights to their land and its resources, including public employment and political representation, is not the solution. If anything you are making ‘wananchi’ in their newly-found ‘Canaan’ more vulnerable to hate and reprisals and affording fodder for persons who would want to disillusion citizens against their government. Who else benefits more than the global extremist who have over the years grown in might and are giving sleepless nights to world powers and enticing the half a century oppressed, marginalised and resource-deprived ‘Wapwani’ in Kenya’s coast.
Simple logic should inform the so-called ‘serikali ya digitali’ that dissatisfaction due to inequality and deprivation done with impunity and total disregard to the rights of the indigenous communities will remain a recurrent occurrence. Fighting fire with the might of military muscles is artificial, window-dressing and pure role play as the fire to emancipate oneself will always rekindle until and only when you appreciate the wrongs done to communities displaced and deprived of their rights.
The communities should be involved in correcting this sad situation that has afflicted Kenyans all the way from President Jomo Kenyatta’s time, perfected by Moi, ignored by Kibaki and misdiagnosed by UhuRuto.
