TWO APs officers have been confirmed dead after heavily armed Militiamen attacked Tahmeed coach at around 6pm on Friday.
The bus had left Malindi at around 4pm,it was attacked by the Militiamen at Kona Mbaya forest, along Gariseni Lamu highway,Lamu county commissioner Miiri Njenga has confirmed.
The land cruiser loaded with officers came face to face with the attackers but were thwarted and disappeared to the thick Boni forest.
Local administrator confirmed the attack and said several passengers might have been hiding in the forest , since the bus was sprayed with bullets, the injured passengers were rushed to Mpeketoni hospital and Witu.
"The gunmen sprayed the tyres with bullets forcing the bus to come to a halt ,several passengers were injured when the officers engaged the attackers, but were defeated as it was late," said a survivor.
Sources say Tahameed bus coming from Mombasa had about 52 passengers when attackers stopped it and started shooting at the passengers.
Some of the injured passengers have been taken to Malindi District hospital for treatment.
One of the victim of the attack Patricia Mbuvi said: "Attackers stopped us and shot our car (Tahmeed bus services) between Pangani and Witu."
Patricia is admitted at Witu dispensary after slight injuries.
The Fresh attacks comes a few days after Kenya Defence Forces were said to have destroyed four camps allegedly used by the militia in the vast Boni forest.
The attack comes four days after a hotel and two houses were burnt in Manda Island.
Arsonists on Sunday night razed an abandoned hotel and two houses in Manda,opposite Lamu Island.
The burning of the hotel came just a day after gunmen raided a village in Pandanguo.
The arsonists set fire to a hotel at Ras Kitau in Lamu East that has been closed for years plus two smaller homes according to officials. No casualties were reported.
Ras Kitau is the location where British national David Tebbut was killed and his wife Judith kidnapped by suspected Al shabaab operatives in 2011.
