Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero picks George Aladwa to head Nairobi liquor licensing board

Former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa has been appointed to head the County Liquor Licensing Board
Former Nairobi mayor George Aladwa has been appointed to head the County Liquor Licensing Board, weeks after he was dropped from a similar position at Nairobi Water in unclear circumstances.
Governor Evans Kidero made the appointment through a gazette notice dated July 4, which will now see Mr Aladwa sit at the helm of a 10-man board that will regulate the production, distribution and sale of alcohol in the city.
The board will be responsible for issuing liquor production and sale licences from which the county expects to collect Sh1 billion this fiscal year.
INVALIDATE APPOINTMENT
Previously, liquor licensing was being undertaken by the National Authority for Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
Earlier in March, Dr Kidero had appointed Mr Aladwa to head Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company board but businessman Balkrishna Devani moved to court to invalidate his appointment on integrity grounds.
Mr Aladwa was accused of falsely acquiring Sh10 million from Mr Devani for the sale of four pieces of land in the city.
The suit is still pending in court. The governor last month dropped Mr Aladwa when he unveiled the utility firm’s board.
