Trouble seems to always dog the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit. Those in the know tell us that the latest controversy is being caused by a decision to form a State House "press corp" made up of journalists from various media houses. Sources say there are plans to reconstitute the team, which will have access to State House and state functions using specially designed press cards.

Still at State House, there is growing concern that the President is being made to launch projects that are not ready for kick-off. When he launched the standard gauge railway, the procurement process had not been completed. The same for the hyped Machakos City which appears to have taken a back seat. When he went to Western Kenya last week, local leaders said the President launched already existing roads as new ones. So who is misleading the President?

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua appeared to have met his match online when a group of Twitter users went to Machakos to see the 33km road that was recently built. On Sunday, the Maskani Conversations group took photos of the road being repaired and some worn out sections. They challenged Mutua and the media to give the true picture of the state of the road.

Two deputy governors from the Mt Kenya region were overheard at the weekend expressing fears over a move by Machakos MCAs to prepare a motion to impeach the county's deputy governor. They said if the motion goes through deputy governors will have to either keep the MCAs close or ensure they toe the governors' line. "We are basically under threat," one of them told their company.
