Cabinet Secretaries have resolved to limit their foreign trips to only the most critical ones.
During a Cabinet meeting today, the Cabinet resolved that Ambassadors and County Commissioners will henceforth represent Cabinet Secretaries where appropriate to reduce travel.
The meeting also resolved to “ruthlessly” tackle corruption and unethical practices including removing individuals, cartels and enablers of corruption.
“Without fear or favour. All offices involved in corruption must be dismissed and charged in Court” the Cabinet  said.
During the meeting the Cabinet approved  amendments to the Public Finance Management Bill, 2014 for both National and County governments. Amendments to the the National Youth General Act (2009) that rationalizes membership from 24-29 years in line with financial prudence and austerity measures was also approved.
The Cabinet also agreed that the construction of a road in the Southern Bypass within the boundary of the Nairobi National Park will consume 38 Hectares of the park.  The Cabinet resolved however that the park will be compensated hectare for hectare. The road is expected to ease  congestion in the city centre by re-routing heavy commercial and other vehicles proceeding to Rift Valley and East African Countries
The construction of more digital integrated infrastructure to enhance security at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was also approved during the meeting. The Cabinet  also directed that immediate solutions must be found to curb increasing slums along the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
Cabinet Secretaries will also direct government departments down to the Counties to buy Kenyan products and services and should only resort to buying foreign goods and services if they are not available or cannot be produced in Kenya.
Ministries were encouraged to challenge local firms/entrepreneurs opportunity to improve competitiveness and standard of their products instead of dismissing them at the first instant.
Cabinet Secretaries also agreed to support the Regional Centre on Small Arms in the Great Lakes Region, the Horn of Africa and Bordering States  (RECSA) to curb conflict in the region. Also approved was the closure of the Kenya Embassy in Libya while enabling new Missions in Algeria and Morocco.
