NGEWA ward representative Karungo wa Thang’wa conducted an impromptu church harambee last Sunday ostensibly to raise money for a medical checkup for Cord leader Raila Odinga. He said Raila could be sick.
Thang’wa urged the congregation to contribute a shilling each to raise Sh300, the consultation fee that his personal doctor charges, and he will book an appointment for Raila.
“Don’t think that I cannot raise this money. I am doing it this way just to show Baba that many people agree with me that he might not be in the right state of mind. Already you have confirmed that by contributing Sh288. Now I am short Sh12, which I will get from the next church,” he said.
Thang’wa said no sane person can ask Kenyans not to go to work on a working day and risk being sacked by their bosses. “How can a jobless person tell working, nation building Kenyans not to go to work.
Only Parliament has power to declare holidays through enactment of relevant laws. I think the former Prime Minister is sick and Kenyans are not realising this. All he needs is medical dialogue not national dialogue,” he said.
Raila has asked Kenyans not to go to work on July 7 and instead attend a rally which he will address. Thang’wa was speaking at Ngenia Catholic Church on Sunday and later at Kiambururu AIPCA.
