The United Republican Party plans to hold a rally in Nandi County to contain the growing influence of Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter and stem his continued attacks on Jubilee Government.
Mr Keter claimed the rally would be held in January next year, and would be attended by top leaders of the party that is led by Deputy President William Ruto.
He alleged that the agenda of the meeting was to portray him as a leader who is being used by enemies of the government to fight it from within.
On Tuesday this week, Mr Ruto held a meeting with governors, senators and county representatives from North Rift and dismissed leaders making a lot of noise (in reference to Mr Keter and company), stating that they would not stop his government from helping the locals.
SIDELINING KALENJINS?
Mr Keter has maintained scathing attacks on President Kenyatta’s and Mr Ruto’s leadership over alleged sidelining of professionals from Kalenjin community in public appointments and corruption.
The legislator has claimed that the cost of the Sh1.3 trillion Standard Gauge Railway that was commissioned by President Kenyatta was exaggerated by over Sh400 billion.
Yesterday, Mr Keter termed the planned rally “a waste of time and public resources”, and urged the people of Nandi Hills to keep off the meeting.
Instead of the campaign, he said, Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto should address the concerns he has raised.
“The government should tell Kenyans who is pocketing the extra Sh400 billion in the railway line project, and when some of the top leaders, who own thousands of hectares of land in the Coast and Rift Valley, will surrender it to squatters,” he said after holding a meeting with his constituents in Nandi Hills Town.
“As leaders from Nandi County, we want President Kenyatta and Mr Ruto to come to Nandi and issue land title deeds as they did when they went to Coast and other parts of Rift Valley,” he added.
“They should also initiate development projects and tell us how many professionals (from Rift Valley) they have employed.”
The lawmaker also dismissed people calling on him to ditch Jubilee.
“Am not moving out of URP or Jubilee Government. I will fight from within and the leadership should address important issues that affect Kenyans.”
