Harambee Stars players were yesterday held up for hours at the Hill Park Hotel over unpaid bills. The hotel management demanded they clear up their bills before they could be released.
Security guards at the premises confirmed that the players were only released at around 12 noon following the intervention of Footbal Kenya Federation President Sam Nyamweya FKF CEO Michael Esakwa refuted the claims and said there was no way the hotel could detain the players
"Nobody can detain the members of the national team. I can confirm that every body including members of the Sudan, Zambia and Tanzanian delegation who were staying in other hotels have already left the country and there is no truth whatsoever on the issue of them being held up," he said.
A spot check at the hotel and interviews with several players confirmed that indeed the Stars players had left the hotel with some of them having left camp on Thursday afternoon after their 2-0 GOTV CECAFA Senior challenge cup victory over Sudan
The kick-off time for the final itself had to be shifted twice after members of the Sudan team were held up at the Milele Hotel as the propriator demanded that all bills be cleared.
