Corridors Of Power

Monday, September 2, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY THE POLITICAL DESK
A governor is said to have punched a senator during the tour of the Coast region by President Uhuru last week. The two were just a few steps away from where Uhuru was standing when the incident occurred. The problem started when the senator called the governor unprintable words. The governor responded with a calculated jab that sent the senator sprawling to the ground. The situation was saved from aggravating to a full-blown fight and attracting the President’s attention when another senator dashed to save his colleague and reprimanded the governor for “behaving like a small boy.”

There was victory at last for one of the city lawyers who has a penchant for not winning cases in court. The man was recently heard boasting to his colleagues that he is now a polished learned fellow after he won a case. Most of his colleagues were however left in stitches wondering why the lawyer, who has been in practice for many years, was mesmerised yet it was a victory in just one case.

They say choices have consequences. Recently, a first time MP was forced to pay dearly for his extra-marital flings when he was caught with his colleague's girlfriend. His colleague is also a first-time MP. The married MP was forced to forego an equivalent of his one month salary to pay for the “damages” against the “offended” friend or be reported to his wife. The matter was arbitrated by yet another MP, who is a long timer in Parliament and a bit elderly compared to the two lawmakers. After the negotiations were over, a deposit was paid to the aggrieved party and the suspect ordered to pay the balance in two weeks without delay.

A Judicial Service Commission member was heard boasting that it is a matter of days before Judiciary Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei finds herself in the streets looking for a new job. The JSC member went ahead to rudely boast that only what is remaining is to make the public believe that there is good and concrete reason why the “mere secretary” should be sent packing.
