Mutula Jr takes commanding lead in Makueni

MUTULA-JR-BALLOTNAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 26 – Mutula Kilonzo Jr has taken an unassailable lead in Makueni, as provisional results from the by-election started trickling in with 155,992 (91pc) of the votes cast from 877 polling stations.
Jubilee’s Philip Kaloki is battling it out with PICK candidate Harun Mwau with 8,955 (5pc) and 6,180 (4pc) of the votes cast respectively.
Independent candidate Urbanus Katumo and LPK’s Jane Kitundu have 478 (0pc) and 378 (0pc) votes respectively.
Makueni County Returning Officer Salad Boru Guracha had however said that he will declare the winner at around 1pm on Saturday.
Guracha told journalists that the commission would take the time to count and counter check the results before they are finally released and a winner declared.
He added that the IEBC staff in Makueni County would also have to file a lot of paper work before the process is concluded.
By 5pm on Friday most polling streams in Makueni County had closed and tallying had commenced.
