Kuppet signs deal with govt on allowances

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers agrees with govt on implementation of allowances

Nairobi, Kenya: Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers has struck a deal with the Government on the implementation of commuter, responsibility and special needs schoolallowances.
The Government has also agreed to recruit additional 10, 000 teachers and release June salaries for its’ 47, 000 members that had been withheld during last week’s strike.
The deal brokered by Cabinet Secretary for Labour Kazungu Kambi also agreed on promotion ofteachers.
“We are still negotiating with the Government on the implementation of leave allowance,” KuppetSecretary General Akello Missori said.
The commuter allowance amounts to Sh11.5 billion while responsibility allowance will cost the State Sh 3.9 billion.
