County reps dismiss plot to impeach Ruto

By Edwin Makiche
BOMET, KENYA: Bomet county representatives have strongly dismissed reports that there are plans to use the county assembly to impeach governor Isaac Ruto over his attack on Jubilee government.
Led by the leader of majority Julius Korir, the MCAs dismissed the reports as misplaced and malicious.
They said that the county assembly were fully behind  Ruto in his bid to ensure the success of devolution and not at any one time have they discussed moving a motion against him.
‘’We would like to inform Kenyans that we are in full support of our governor and would also stand by him. The media reports that MCAs plan to impeach him are disturbing and retrogressive’’ said Korir when he addressed the press on Friday at the county assembly grounds.
‘’As MCAs we are agents of devolution and are proud to be associated with the governor in his fight for full devolution of government functions and increased funding to the counties,’’ he added.
Korir who was accompanied by other MCAs urged theJubilee government to address pertinent issues on devolution instead of engaging in side shows. He said that any attempts to use the assembly to impeach the governor bordered on destabilizing the county and would not succeed.
According to a story that appeared in a local daily on Friday, a section of leaders in Jubilee alliance planned to impeach Ruto on grounds that he was workingwith the opposition and foreign powers to destabilize the Jubilee.
In the meeting, which was reportedly attended by URP leaders from Rift Valley, a plan was hatched to rally the MCAs against Ruto.
But on Friday, the MCAs said they were not aware of such plans. Silibwet township county representative Robert Metet urged Kalenjin leaders not to drag supremacy battle to county governance.
‘’We are fully in URP and no leader should declare himself as a de facto  speaker for Kalenjin community . We are in a democratic republic where every leader should speak his mind and associate with anyone without fear’’ said Metet.
Metet who was among MCAs who accompanied Ruto to a fundraiser in Homabay last weekend denied that there were plans by Bomet leaders to join forces with the CORD alliance.
