Corridors of Power

A senior judge is regretting a recent decision he delivered and is now considering quitting from the bench. It is not immediately clear which judgement has caused the good judge concern. However, he feels it has 'injured his career and reputation earned over many years and would rather quit before he is ignominiously shown the door after a long drawn out and embarrassing tribunal process. He told a friend that he knew his goose was cooked the moment he delivered the judgement.

A chairman of an independent commission was overheard telling an MP to go slow after a committee meeting recently. The MP who was displeased by the response the chairman had provided when he appeared before the committee and threatened to lobby his fellow MPs to remove him as chairman. Undeterred, the chairman was quick to inform the MP that he would get nowhere as the commission was reportedly organizing a 'retreat' for the committee members who will be catered for handsomely and even receive princely per diems!

A prominent city lawyer is in a dilemma— what is he to do after he discovered that his client was having an affair with his wife? The lawyer is representing the man in one of the most sensitive cases currently in the courts. He has now threatened to spill the beans because his client has already betrayed his confidence and trust by romancing his wife behind his back. The lawyer believes there is nothing the man can do to him. However, the client has threatened that if the lawyer outs him, he will withhold payment of the substantive fees which he still owes. So the question comes down to—will the lawyer keep quiet and get the money or will he open up about his wife's infidelity with his client and lose the money?
