Ruto: I am a victim of falsehood

By Standard Digital Reporter
Deputy President William Ruto has pledged to continue with his cooperation with the International Criminal Court ( ICC).
Ruto is facing crimes against humanity charges at The Hague based court.
While addressing ICC Judges during the Status Conference on Tuesday, Ruto claimed that he is a victim of a syndicate of falsehood and a conspiracy of lies.
“I have cooperated with the office of the prosecution even before submissions were made and will do so in future”, Ruto said.
He further added: “I firmly believe in my innocence and the rule of law”.
The deputy president alleged that the ICC process has produced two types of victims; Post election violence victims and victims of falsehood and conspiracy where his case falls under.
Ruto's senior counsel Karim Khan in the submissions requested the court for more time saying there is massive breaches in the disclosure of evidence by the prosecution.
Khan argued that the prosecution has added 109 new item of incriminatory evidence and three new witnesses.
“ We need adequate time otherwise justice will suffer”, Khan told the court.
Joshua Sang’s Laywer Katwa Kigen on his part asked for additional time to enable them investigate and react to the case before them. Kigen faulted the prosecution’s move to call in three new witnesses.
President Uhuru Kenyatta and former radio presenter Joshua Arap Sang are also facing similar charges following the 2007/08 post election violence.
