A harambee for the funeral expenses of Senator Mutula Kilonzo yesterday raised Sh16 million in a record 10 minutes. Political bigwigs and Mutula’s legal friends trooped into the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi to raise funds for a befitting send-off.
The MC, Isaac Kaluu, invited former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who donated Sh600,000 at 6.54pm. A stream of donations followed and in about five minutes, Kaluu announced that MPs had pledged Sh2 million.
Mourners from Makueni, through governor Kivutha Kibwana, pledged Sh1 million. At 7.05pm, Kaluu announced that they had hit the Sh16million target. Also present were family members, former AG Charles Njonjo and former MP Stanley Githunguri.
