Corridors of Power

TUESDAY, MAY 21, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A non-parliamentarian considered very close to President Uhuru Kenyatta and who has easy access to him was yesterday spotted monitoring the elections for the chairmen and deputies of the Senate and National Assembly committees. The man could be seen closely monitoring how Jubilee MPs were voting before reaching out for his mobile phone to relay the outcome.

Still on the elections of committee chairmen, an ODM MP who lost the top seatt to a Jubilee member was heard cursing out one of his ODM colleagues who opted to vote for the Jubilee candidate. The MP from Nyanza said the action was “the highest form of betrayal” not only to him personally but to the party that had sponsored them to Parliament.

A senior officer who is in charge of a unit at the CID has been forced to go on compulsory leave after it was established that he has never taken leave since his appointment to the position nearly five years ago. The officer is reportedly concerned that he will be replaced by someone with better qualifications than he has. It seems he has frustrated his deputy and had him transferred to an out of town station specifically to safeguard his position. A foreign security agency also allegedly withdrew its co-operation with the police because it doubted his qualifications.

Several people in the TNA camp who previously enjoyed easy access to Uhuru Kenyatta are now very angry because they can hardly reach him since he was sworn in as the country’s president. They are now blaming some of their colleagues whom they allege have placed 'roadblocks' making it difficult for them to access Uhuru.
