Corridors of Power

Chances of a senior TNA official from Nyanza to secure an appointment to the Cabinet or any other public service post are dwindling by the day as he has failed to get a certificate of good conduct which is usually issued by the police to confirm the person has no past criminal record. The reason for his woes is that the man has had a run-in with the police in the past and there are unresolved issues concerning a criminal case which has yet to be concluded. Unwilling to take the rap if they issue the all important certificate, the police had asked the man to get a clearance certificate from the Kisumu law courts where the case was being heard before they even consider giving him the certificate.

Plans by deputy inspector general of police Grace Kaindi to host fellow gazetted female officers for a thanks giving ceremony are causing jitters in the police service. Instead of celebrating and joining hands with their female colleagues, several senior male officers are reading mischief in the event scheduled to held this Saturday at CID training school and are making noises about it being 'discriminatory.' Question is why they are complaining now yet none of them has raised any complaints about the continued domination of police hierarchical positions by one gender—men!

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi may have to acquire the patience of Job to deal with many MPs who are yet to acquaint themselves with the House Standing Orders. Ken Okoth who is making his parliamentary debut as the MP for Kibra sought to catch the Speaker's eye in quite a novel way. Instead of using the buzzer on his Sh250,000 seat or standing up, Okoth opted to raise his hand. Muturi told the new Mheshimiwa  to stop behaving like a primary school kid and conform to the House rules.

Who actually is behind the portal http://intelligencebriefs.com? Our moles tell us that a key member of a leading political coalition is running the website and writes the stories on the Kenya intelligence and political situation using the pseudonym of a foreigner. The young man behind the website is said to be getting some information from NIS officers to discredit western diplomats.
