World Leaders Send Congratulatory Messages Featured
Congratulatory messages continue pouring in for the peaceful election of Uhuru Kenyatta as the 4th President
Messages of support and goodwill for Kenya and its President Elect have come from all over the world.
The United Nations Secretary general Ban Ki Moon congratulated the people of Kenya for their impressive determination to participate peacefully in the elections
The statement from the Spokesperson for Ban Ki Moon praised Kenyans for their patience they demonstrated as they waited for presidential results.
In the statement, the spokesperson for Ban Ki-Moon said that the Secretary general had spoken on phone with Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
Ban Ki-Moon reiterated his call for both leaders to send clear messages of calm to their supporters, and he reminded them of the commitments they made to channel any electoral grievances through the legal channels.
'Kenyans are depending at this time on wise and responsible leadership, ' said Ban Ki-Moon in the statement.
A statement sent by the Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya David Angell congratulated Kenya for exercising their democratic rights and electing their leaders under a new constitution.
“Canada calls for any election-related dispute to be resolved peacefully through the Kenyan courts. Canada will continue to partner with the Kenyan people to work toward a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for all,” said Angell, in the statement sent to newsrooms.
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan called President Elect Uhuru Kenyatta to congratulate him and assure him of his country's support.
A statement from Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni said that he was looking forward to consolidate the brotherly relations between the two countries, Kenya and Uganda, as well as within the wider East African and the Great Lakes Region.
'We congratulate the people of Kenya on holding such peaceful elections. Their conduct has redeemed the honour of Kenya and Africa,' said Yoweri in the statement.
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame in his congratulatory message to the President Elect, said that his government is looking forward to working with Kenya's Government to bring bilateral cooperation to greater heights and achieve both countries common regional destiny.
'The results of the just-ended electoral process are testimony of the trust the Kenyan people have bestowed upon you; and I have no doubt in your abilities to steer the realization of Kenya's development aspirations,' said Kagame.
Tanzania's President Jakaya Kikwete assured Uhuru of his personal commitment and support as well as that of his government to work with Uhuru.
'It is my sincere hope that together we will continue to steer both Kenya -Tanzania relation and East Africa integration to greater heights for the benefits of our countries and people,' said Kikwete.
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also sent his congratulatory message to President Elect Uhuru Kenyatta and called for calm among winners and losers in the elections.
“With a huge turnout of around 85%, the people of Kenya have taken the opportunity to choose their next leader. We congratulate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for their role in a peaceful election and all the candidates on their inspiring campaigns,' said President Mohamud.
'The Government and the people of Somalia congratulate His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta on his election as President of the Republic of Kenya and we look forward to continued strong relations between our countries,” added President Mohamud.
In his statement, President Mohamud said that he believed that all Kenyans will respond to these results with peace and calmness, and where there are legitimate concerns or disputes, these should be channeled through the courts.
“Security and stability within the wider Horn of Africa region remains of vital concern, and it is in all our interests to work together for peace. We urge all our Kenyan brothers and sisters, and their leaders, to respect the value of life and property,” stated President Mohamud.
The National Civil Society Congress has also congratulated the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for carrying out free and fair elections.
The congress has also thanked Kenyans for turning out and voting peacefully.
