Thursday, the 14th of March 2013 -News just in indicates that Sudan’s President Omar al Bashir has sent a congratulatory message to Kenya’s President elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Bashir also expressed confidence that under Uhuru’s leadership Sudan and Kenya will strengthen their diplomatic ties.
Uhuru on Saturday became the first person ever to be elected to lead a country while facing charges of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Should Uhuru be sworn in as President on the 26th of this month (or on a later date) then he will join Bashir to become only the second sitting African President to face charges at the ICC.
Bashir has refused to cooperate with the ICC and an international arrest warrant is out on his name.
More to follow.
