The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has rejected the election results citing irregularities in the tallying process.
Odinga said that the tallying process was marred by massive irregularities with some constituencies registering massive voter turnout that exceeded the registered voters number as per the final list of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Odinga faulted IEBC for failing to deliver honestly even having taken the oath of office to be transparent.
“There was massive tampering with the IEBC’s system which led to electoral process compromise,” said Odinga.
“Voter registration numbers were reduced in our strongholds and given to Jubilee and later CORD agents were kicked out of polling centers making it difficult to verify results.”
Odinga said that his CORD alliance and himself would only concede defeat if he had lost in a free and fair manner and not through a flawed system.
“It is clear the process of electing new leaders has been thwarted by another tainted election. We would have readily conceded defeat if the IEBC delivered a credible election.”
Accompanied by CORD summit officials, Odinga said that they would move to the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the elections.
“We will shortly move to court to challenge the outcome of the results announced by the IEBC,” he added.
The Premier said that IEBC had taken the country to 2007 where the whole process was flawed and the ultimate winner not disclosed up to date.
Odinga was addressing a media briefing at the CORD centre in Nairobi shortly after IEBC announced his deputy Uhuru Kenyatta the President-Elect after garnering the required votes to ascend to power.
Kenyatta was announced the winner after garnering a total of 6,173,545 votes which translates to 50.07% out of the total 12,330,028 vote cast.
Kenyatta surpassed the 50% plus one votes mark beating his closest rival Prime Minister Raila Odinga by over 800,000 votes.
Odinga came second after garnering 5,340,546 of the total vote cast.
This was the third time Odinga was giving a stab on the presidency after losing in 2007 and in 1997.
