Presidential candidate on Safina Party ticket Paul Muite conceded defeat following announcement of poll results . He congratulated the president-elect of the Republic of Kenya - Uhuru Kenyatta and assured him support from his party. Here is his verbatim speech:
Following the declaration of Hon Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta as the President Elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission yesterday, I wish to make the following statement.
Yesterday morning, before the announcement by the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, I telephoned Hon. Kenyatta and congratulated him and his Jubilee Coalition for putting up a good show and emerging victorious in the just concluded Presidential election of March 4th 2013.
I wish Hon. Kenyatta and his administration well and assure the President Elect, the support of the Safina, particularly in the implementation of solid social and economic policies that Kenyans so desperately need to live in dignity.
I urge Hon. Kenyatta as he takes Office to protect Human Rights and fundamental freedoms of all Kenyans as stated in the Constitution of Kenya without regard to their social status, origin or persuasion.
I encourage Hon Kenyatta to form a clean, lean, empathetic, accountable and responsible Government; which will live within its means, tighten Government spending; reduce the gap between the rich and the poor. I urge him to not permit theft of public resources.
I trust that Hon. Kenyatta will fully support the devolved system of Government and at the same time keep an eye on the County Governments so that corruption is fully eradicated at all levels.
If these issues that I have mentioned here form part of the Agenda of Hon. Kenyatta’s Government, then I can assure him of my personal support and that of the Safina Party.
I also telephoned Hon Raila Odinga yesterday, and congratulated him on the competitive edge his Cord Alliance added to the presidential campaigns. I am encouraged by his choice to seek redress in the Supreme Court as stipulated in law, and asking his supporters to remain peaceful.
Kenya’s democracy is maturing but we must keep alive the hopes of millions of Kenyans by making sure that each general election improves the quality of our democracy. We must ensure that no Kenyan is disenfranchised and the IEBC must ensure that the Diaspora and all those eligible to vote are registered before the next General election.
Safina Party is asking for a total forensic audit of the biometric voter registration Kits. The Audit should address the procurement process of the electronic transmission gadgets and the use of public funds to finance a failed technology. Kenyans paid over 9 Billion Shillings for these kits. We need an explanation.
I wish to thank Kenyans for supporting Democracy by showing up and lining up to exercise their democratic right to vote in huge numbers.
I also wish to thank all the Candidates for offering themselves for office, because by so doing; many options were put before the Kenyan People to make their choice.
Lastly, I thank Safina party members who nominated me. I thank Kenyans who supported my bid by voting for me. I am pleased with the results and encouraged given the short time and resources applied to my bid. The Safina option will always be on table.
There can only be one winner in an election. Democracy dictates that “the majority will have its way and the minority will have its say”
I and the Safina Party, will work with the election victors to make Kenya an enviable democracy, based on Principles of good governance; Participatory governance; Transparency and accountability.
GOD BLESS KENYA!
HON. PAUL MUITE SC
PARTY LEADER, SAFINA PARTY
