TNA aspirant goes missing, police say they’re investigating

By Eric Wainaina
An aspirant vying for Ruiru parliamentary seat on The National Alliance (TNA) party ticket has gone missing in what relatives and supporters claim a case of ‘political thuggery’.
The disappearance of Mr Gathii Irungu sparked protests among his supporters who barricaded Ruiru-Thika road before police dispersed them.
Mr Githii who is a renowned lawyer is said to have disappeared on Thursday night and his car was found abandoned near Membley, along the Northern bypass road on Friday morning.
One of his aides who was on the route at around 5am spotted the car parked along the road, but his efforts to reach Gathii on phone turned futile as his phone was off.
His wife, Ms Jane Wambui said she communicated with her husband at around 1am and he told her that he was in Zimmerman awaiting a Kikuyu artiste who was recording his political lyrics.
But the musician who also recorded a statement with the police said they never met since the latter arrived late. A bar owner at Zimmerman said Gathii was at his premises and left at around 1am and he never met the artiste.
“One of his campaigners was supposed to drive me to work. In the morning he called and informed me that he had seen one of our cars parked on the road and my husband wasn’t there. We made some calls and after realising that the matter was serious, we reported to the police,” Wambui said.
