Police assure parties security in nominations

By Peter Ochieng
Security has been beefed up in Eldoret town ahead of party nominations next week.
Eldoret town was one of the hot spots in the 2007 elections where people lost their lives while others had their property destroyed. It also comes amid fresh names mentioned by International Criminal Court (ICC) believed to be linked to the violence.
Eldoret West OCPD Erastus Muthamia said they have put in place mechanisms to curb any disruptions that might come up during the exercise. Muthamia said his office would corporate with the party officials to ensure that the nominations are conducted peacefully.
“We have put in place all the necessary measures to deal with cases that might arise and interfere with the smooth running of nominations,” Muthamia said.
The OCPD explained that police were waiting for official communication from party officials on nomination venues.
Meanwhile, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission North Rift regional co-ordinator Solomon Mudanya said they would ensure nomination exercises are conducted smoothly.
Mudanya noted each and every party has its rules and regulations that will be used in the exercise.
