LIST of WITNESSES on UHURU/ RUTO ICC cases and BENSOUDA’s new evidence

Wednesday January 9, 2013 - International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has said she has sufficient evidence to nail Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and Eldoret North William Ruto.

In her briefing in the ICC website on Tuesday, Bensouda said she has new evidence linking the two in the 2007-08 post election violence, saying she will nail Uhuru for the killings in Nakuru County and Ruto for the Kiambaa church inferno.

On Monday, the Gambian born prosecutor dropped 8 witnesses saying their evidences do not add up to the cases, picking two new witnesses who had since been flown to a European country for safety.

In Uhuru’s case, Bensouda says she has credible evidence that the alleged meeting at State House Nairobi planned retaliatory attacks in Naivasha and Nakuru killing hundreds of innocent civilians.

As for Ruto who the prosecutor saddles with the Kiamba Church killings in Eldoret, the prosecutor introduces  a new list of alleged accomplices he was supposed to have worked with in mobilising, coordinating  and commanding the killings in Rift Valley.

Among the named accomplices in Ruto’s case are ;ODM chairman and Tinderet MP Henry Kosgei, Jackson Kibor, Fred Kapondi, Augustine Cheruiyot, Samson Cheramboss and John Koech.

Bensouda said she is ready to prosecute cases on Uhuru and Ruto, saying she is waiting for the month of April to present the charges before the pre-Trial Chamber V judges.

Uhuru and Ruto’s cases commence on April 10 and 11 respectively.
