The electoral commission has rejected nomination lists submitted by some political parties after they failed to meet the agency’s requirements.
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Ahmed Issack Hassan on Friday said that several lists presented to the commission had been rejected on technical grounds. Consequently, he has asked them to update the lists of persons they intend to nominate after the March 4 General Election and submit them by January 29.
IEBC will also publish the lists on its website on the same day.
“We have declined to accept some of the nomination lists because the parties did not follow the requirements outlined by the law,” Mr Hassan said.
On Friday, it emerged that ODM and TNA were among political parties yet to submit their proposed list of nominees to the IEBC.
Parties are required to consider the youth, marginalised persons, women and people with disabilities when compiling the list of proposed nominees.
On Friday a party list obtained from sources at the commission indicated that URP has proposed former Bomet MP Beatrice Kones for nomination to the senate.
Ms Kones lost the URP nomination for the Bomet East seat in last week’s nominations.
Also proposed for nomination is the URP senatorial candidate for Nairobi Millicent Omanga.
Ms Omanga and Ms Kones are however not among those prioritised for nomination as they appear at the tail end of the list.
Those on top of the list are Ogla Chepkemoi, Esther Kapario and Irene Cherop Masit. They are among the 12 party members URP has proposed to nominate to the Senate.
Others potential nominees are Sabdio Bashuna, Ian Tanui, Leah Naikanae, Rose Jepkoech, Fatuma Dullo, Lisa Cheluget and Beverly Cherop.
The party has also proposed 10 other people for nomination to the National Assembly including Samuel Mburu Kamau, Koech Margaret Chepkemoi and Aden Nooh Ali .
Others listed for nomination as MPs are Susan Kihika, Sara Paulata, Florence Sergon, Rose Marwa, David Sankok and Violet Chesang.
