I canNOT compete with MIKE SONKO … He is TOO POPULAR! - MUTULA tells RAILA and KALONZO

Wednesday January 9, 2013 - Education Minister Mutula Kilonzo has turned down a request by members of the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (CORD) to contest the Senator’s Seat in Nairobi instead of Makueni County.

Credible sources said Mutula turned down the offer because of Makadara MP Mike Sonko’s popularity, saying his eyes were on the Makueni Ssenator seat and would not contest anywhere else.

“I want to thank my sympathizers and supporters in Nairobi but I want to tell them that Makueni needs me more than Nairobi does,” Mutula, who is also the Mbooni MP, said.

The Minister spoke after CORD‘s leaders led by Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Prime Minister Raila Odinga asked him to move his Senatorial bid in Nairobi.

Mutula said he cannot wait to be embarrassed by the Makadara MP who is a darling of city residents.

Mike Sonko has taken the City by storm and CORD alliance is looking for a strong challenger to compete with him in Nairobi’s Senatorial race.

Sonko is running the seat on The National Alliance (TNA) party ticket.
