Eugene defends his political flip-flopping before landing in Amani

By PETER ATSIAYA
Justice minister Eugene Wamalwa  (left) has defended his decision to associate with several political coalitions before settling in one.
Mr Wamalwa, who has teamed up with Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi in Amani Alliance, said those who refer to him as a political nomad were wrong.
“I have seen a cartoon portraying me as a leader who has joined many alliances. This is false,” Wamalwa told teachers’ representatives at Webuye Social Hall. Cabinet minister Soita Shitanda, MPs Yusuf Chanzu, George Khaniri, Justus Kizito, Musikari Kombo, Boni Khalwale, Alfred Sambu, Ben Washiali and Manyala Keya, among others, were present.
He added: “I was hunting for an alliance. I am a leader who can unite the country that is recovering from effects of post-election violence.”
He noted he sacrificed his presidential ambition for Mudavadi to save the Luhya community the embarrassment of being perceived as a divided lot. “The community has been a laughing stock because we don’t speak with one voice. Our numerical strength has benefitted other people and not us,” he explained.
The Saboti MP said Amani leaders, who include Mudavadi, Kanu chairman Gideon Moi and him will camp in Western for five days starting this Friday to consolidate the region’s support.
Muliro Gardens
“Our first rally will be in Bungoma town on Friday before holding another at Muliro Gardens in Kakamega,” he said.
On Sunday, the team will move to Kitale in Trans Nzoia County. On Monday, Amani will hold a rally at Busia Stadium and the following day at Mbale town in Vihiga County.
Wamalwa’s New Ford Kenya party got a boost after UDF and Kanu, which are members of Amani resolved that they would not field candidates in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia County.
Leaders vying for various seats in Bungoma County on New Ford-K ticket include former PS Kenneth Lusaka (Governor) and Kombo (Senator) while former Cabinet minister Kipruto Kirwa is gunning for the position of Senator in Trans Nzoia County.
