Corridors of Power

SATURDAY, JANUARY 5, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
One of the aspirants for the Nakuru governor’s seat is a worried man. The budding politician, who was once quoted saying he was the man to beat in the governor’s race and thus did not need to campaign much to capture the seat, is now having sleepless nights over his waning popularity across the county. So worried is he that he has undertaken a radical overhaul of his campaign teams and secretariat ahead of the March 4 poll. The politician is also said to be shopping around for a new party after losing hope of securing a direct nomination from a top party by donating money to its campaign kitty. Disgruntled campaigners, who have now been left out in the cold after the overhaul, are grumbling that the man is set to self destruct due to his "sneaky ways".

Is TNA Planning to disqualify Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu from running for the position of Governor of Nairobi? We are told that the party is seriously discussing the possibility of locking out the MP after Waititu stormed its headquarters and brought business to a standstill for hours yesterday. TNA will likely opt not to nominate him on the grounds of integrity and violence and the fact that Waititu is yet to defect from PNU.

A vocal MP has reduced one of the public universities in his constituency to his cash cow. The institution's vice chancellor has constructed a magnificent gate at the cost of Sh40 million even though the university has inadequate lecture halls for the already large student population. The MP got wind of the issue of poor administration at the varsity and confronted the VC, threatening to raise the matter on the floor of the House. Desperate to save face, the VC gave the MP Sh1 million to go slow on the matter and duly offered him a monthly retainer of Sh200,000.
