Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has been dealt a blow after youthful politician Brian Weke resigned from her party this week. Weke, who unsuccessfully contested the Kamukunji parliamentary seat in September 2010, communicated his decision to Karua on Wednesday evening.
"This is to inform your kind office that after wide consultations with my family, friends and supporters, I have decided to resign both as an ordinary member of the party and also as National Executive Committee member representing the youth," he said in the letter. Weke, who has been having wrangles with Karua over his dalliance with Narc Kenya rivals, especially some top officials of both ODM and TNA, had been summoned by the party to be disciplined.
Weke's problems with Karua are said to have stemmed from the party's refusal to nominate him as the East Africa Legislative Assembly candidate. Narc Kenya gave him conditions to fulfil which include avoiding attending political meetings of rival parties.
"Following the disciplinary committee meeting I attended at your offices in the month of July and subsequent to your verdict, I wish to state that the demands set therein are unattainable to me and as such, I will not be able to implement the same," the letter adds.
He is now said to be torn between joining Uhuru Kenyatta's TNA or Raila Odinga's ODM party.
