POLICE TERRIFIED. The chaos in Mombasa in which several people died last week has exposed the bad side of the new Constitution, remarks Taabu Tele. He adds:
“The poor policemen were too petrified to respond to the rioters pelting them with stones and other crude missiles, thanks to the new laws which do not allow the officers to use necessary force to defend themselves. We are inviting anarchy. Policemen, too, have blood flowing in their veins.”

MUTULA IS RIGHT. With the holiday tuition ban, Education minister Mutula Kilonzo has endeared himself to many, including Jackson Njamba, who says:
“It has been an avenue that teachers used to get money out of parents.” As the teachers benefited from the loot, the children, who should have been enjoying their holidays, were being subjected to needless torture. “After all, it is these same teachers who make the syllabus and I am sure it does not have to be completed during holidays. Thanks, Mutula!”

CLEAN YOUR HOUSE FIRST. Nairobi Town Clerk Roba Duba, who has been threatening to auction the residents’ properties over unpaid rates citing some laws that allow him to do so, should also realise that the same legislation requires that the people get quality services from the City Council, says Peter Mburu.
According to Mburu, this is something City Hall has failed to do in many areas. “You should not reap where you have not sown. It must be a two-way traffic. Make good your threats and risk the wrath of property owners,” says Mburu.

SHIKUKU WAS A PATRIOT. The death of veteran politician Martin Shikuku, who for many years was the self-declared people’s watchman in Parliament, has robbed the country of a real hero, says John Alaro.
Such tough and brave people are what the country really needs to fight impunity, he adds. John vividly remembers the statement Shikuku made in Parliament many years ago, which led to his detention without trial. It was the assertion that the Kanu was dead. “It was not easy during the single-party days,” he quips. His contact is alarojohn@yahoo.com.

REGISTARS INEPT. The officers who register births and issue birth certificates are not only incompetent but also annoying, says Martin Tairo Maseghe, adding:
“How would one explain this. Birth certificates for both my parents had spelling errors. My sisters’ papers, too, had the same and they had to swear affidavits on their real names.
Mine had an error which I corrected. Now, I’ve just picked up my daughter’s certificate and it still has errors .” His contact is tairo@architecturekenya.com.

WRONG-HEADED. The girls advertising themselves on a Facebook page, Campus Divas for Rich Men, have got it all wrong, warns Lilly Koech, a postgraduate student. She adds:
“I wish to tell those girls that their thoughts are barbaric, crappy and terribly wrong.” There is more to life than the greed driving the girls to hook up with rich men.
“They should clear their courses and meet the REAL divas out here with brains and beauty.” In case they need more advice, her contact is lillykoech24@gmail.com.
Have a sensible day, won’t you!
