A section of Kamba leaders, largely from Makueni County, have asked leading presidential candidates to form an alliance.
They want Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Eldoret North MP William Ruto to consider forming an alliance before the country goes to the polls.
Speaking after the PM’s tour of the region, during the launch of the blueprint by Makueni parliamentary aspirant Fred Muteti, the leaders said the three need to find a working formula. “Raila, Kalonzo and Ruto should all realise that none of them can win the presidency on their own. They should swallow their pride and form an alliance to secure a clean win in 2013,” said Muteti.
Muteti, a former aide to the VP and personal friend to Ruto said the three have formerly worked together and so they should once again reconsider their political relationship for the sake of the country’s stability.
Tom Luusa, a gubernatorial aspirant for Makueni County said it is only through formidable alliances with a clear vision that the country will be assured of peaceful elections and national development.
Powerful positions
He advised presidential aspirants to stop looking at the presidency as the only powerful position, saying  other positions such as Deputy President, leader of majority party and speaker are also powerful positions the candidates should consider.
The more than 500 leaders comprising of women and youth leaders, parliamentary and governorship aspirants and religious leaders spoke at Matiliku AIC church where they held a prayer session for their candidate and for the country.
They criticised the G-7 alliance as a tribal outfit crafted by some political mafia with intent to block Raila and Kalonzo from ascending to the presidency.
Muteti said deputy premiers Musalia Mudavadi and Uhuru Kenyatta had shown all indications that they wished to work together and asked Raila, Kalonzo and Ruto to  consider their stances before they are caught napping.
