PS Nalo dies of cancer in Nairobi hospital

East Africa Community Permanent Secretary David S.O. Nalo died early on Thursday morning while in hospital. Michael Okidi, the ministry's Chief Information Officer said Nalo had been admitted in Nairobi Hospital for over a week for cancer treatment, but died at 2 a.m on Thursday.
Earlier this year, Nalo came out publicly with his condition when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin Limforma. He called for the establishment of cancer facilities to enable early diagnosis and challenged Parliament, the Treasury and the Revenue Allocation Committee to view the issue as a priority. He had been seeking treatment since, but succumbed to it this morning.
Mr. Nalo had an illustrious career having been Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Trade and Industry, and Planning and National Development before taking the helm at the Ministry of East Africa Community. He was also the Alternate Member to Kenya Tourist Development Corporation, Kenya Hotel Properties Limited and the Kenya Utalii College where he represented the Permanent Secretary to the Treasury.
Hon. Nalo died at age 50 and  is survived by his wife and five children.
