A senior police officers in charge of an elite unit last week released a Nigerian drug baron who had been arrested by his juniors in Kilimani area after allegedly receiving a Sh500,000 bribe. The officer reportedly demanded to know from his juniors the source information that led to the arrest of the West African and forced them to apologise to the released drug baron. The suspect allegedly threatened the junior police officers in the senior officers presence. The five junior officers were last week transferred from the unit while the informant, whose identity was given to the drug baron has since gone missing.

A media personnel caused a stir in his village in Western Kenya when he landed in a chopper. The man who has privately told close friends that he was seeking one of the governor seats hired the chopper ostensibly to show off to his would-be supporters as well as announce his presence in the village. But this was an expensive affair because apart from paying the cost of hiring the chopper, he also had to fork out extra cash to pay a villager whose farm the chopper landed.

A cabinet minister from Central Kenya is set to join the ranks of politicians who own media houses. The minister is said to be making final touches for the launch of the vernacular radio station in what opponents feel is a tactic to control the airwaves.
