NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 25 –Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta has distanced himself from claims that The National Alliance party (TNA) was in talks with the United Democratic Forum party (UDF) over a joint ticket in the upcoming general elections.
Kenyatta said on Monday that no such talks had been held with his counterpart Musalia Mudavadi.
He described the allegations by Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni and Laikipia West MP Nderitu Mureithi in the Standard on Sunday as blatant lies.
“No such thing exists,” he stated.
The front page article suggested that in the new scheme, Kenyatta would be compelled to be Mudavadi’s running mate while UDP’s William Ruto would be leader of majority in the House.
It said that there was pressure for Kenyatta and Ruto, both of whom are facing charges at the International Criminal Court over crimes against humanity during the 2008 post election violence in Kenya, to support Mudavadi as a presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
Kenyatta has asked the two legislators to stop talking on his behalf since they were not in TNA and were not qualified to speak for him.
“They should stop pretending they can. They must stop running with the hare and hunting with the dogs,” he said in a statement sent by his spokesperson Munyori Buku.
“What’s so difficult for them to stick to their UDF?” he posed.
Kenyatta was on Sunday the chief guest at the launch of New Ford Kenya offices whose flag bearer is his close ally Eugene Wamalwa.
He pledged to support any presidential candidate that would unite Kenyans.
On the other hand Mudavadi has promised to reach out to his rivals to ensure the country goes to the next elections united.
