The coalition government has let Kenyans down by failing to deliver what it promised, Eldoret North MP William Ruto has said.
Although some gains had been made, Mr Ruto said the government failed in many fronts and shattered the expectations of Kenyans.
Addressing journalists during the second day of the National Conference and County Forum on Peaceful Elections in Mombasa on Saturday Mr Ruto said there had been “a delayed take-off”.
He accused those put in positions in the coalition government of serving loyalties instead of delivering services.
Election aftermath
Mr Ruto praised the peace initiative, saying it had its positive values coming at a time the country was preparing for elections and after a violent election aftermath in 2007.
“Although we cannot write off all the wrongs in just one meeting in Mombasa, this gathering, however, has its values towards making the coming election peaceful,” he said.
He said that although leaders had an integral role to play in ensuring there was peace, all Kenyans must strive to make sure this was achieved.

He said that if the “takeoff” had come much earlier, the economy would have been much better, there would be less unemployment, and less Kenyans would be hungry today.
Answering Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua who said during the opening of the forum on Friday that the presidential aspirants who missed the session were doing wrong, Mr Ruto said: “The opening was not any more important than the real session.”
Unnecessary sideshows
“Raising an issue because we were not present at the opening ceremony is raising unnecessary sideshows and dwelling on blame games. The important issue is that we are all responsible for bringing peace to this country.”
The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya has called on President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga to ensure that what is discussed is implemented.
“Peace does not end with hotel conferences while the internally displaced people continue to live in makeshift homes and youth continue to miss national identification documents and a right to elect the next government,” said secretary-general Sheikh Mohammed Dor.
The nominated MP said some leaders continued to misuse the youth to heckle their opponents during campaigns and other political rallies.
The council’s organising secretary, Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa, called on the two principals to implement the recommendations of the various commissions previously formed to look into the cause of national unrest and marginalisation.
