Former President Moi has raised alert over what he calls
entrenchment of ethnicity in the Constitution.
On Saturday, Moi expressed his reservations on the contents of the
new Constitution, saying they were bound to advance tribalism.
“The new Constitution has taken tribalism to
the grassroots through county governments.”
The former president said that instead of creating county governments, the Constitution should have retained the Provincial Administration.

“Some counties will be richer than others, while others will go
bankrupt and this is likely to inflame ethnic jealousies,” said Moi. He,
however, called on Kenyans to maintain peace and unity in the run-up to the
General Election. He asked voters to elect leaders, who are development-
minded.
The former Head of State was speaking at Mary Mount High School in
Molo during a fundraising for construction of administration block, on
Saturday. He challenged parents and teachers in Molo to expand educational
facilities to ensure education is accessible to all children in the district
and beyond. He also called on them to create a conducive environment to allow
students to study effectively.
“Education is important to the current and future generations.
Parents no longer have land to allot children, but education will afford them
comfortable lives.”
Moi said for peace to prevail, legislation on cohesion will not
help. Instead he said Kenyans should be willing to co-exist with one another on
their own.
“Let people talk about peace and cohesion will be achieved,” he said.
The former President gave Sh1 million at the fundraising.
