President Mwai Kibaki has been awarded the prestigious Medal of Industrial Merit by the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Kibaki was awarded the medal in recognition of his outstanding efforts towards promoting entrepreneurship and industrial development in Kenya.
In bestowing the medal, the President of the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo, Mr Paulo Skaf congratulated Kibaki for turning Kenya's economy around despite many domestic and external challenges.
Mr Skaf said Kibaki had laid sound basis for the future industrial development in Kenya through sound policies as articulated in Vision 2030.
On his part, Kibaki said the award was an appreciation of the efforts by the Kenyan people towards industrial development.
Kibaki also invited Brazilian investors to explore investment opportunities in Kenya stating there were a wide range of lucrative opportunities in the energy, infrastructure and tourism sectors.
Kibaki said Kenya has undergone a major transformation in the last decade which has opened vast economic potential.
He cited the Lamu Port, South Sudan and Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) corridor, which he said Kenya was undertaking jointly with neighbouring countries of Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Kibaki said the transport corridor, which comprises the construction of a modern port at Lamu on the Kenyan coast, oil refinery, power lines, railway and highway as well as fibre optic infrastructure represents one of the most lucrative investment opportunities in the East and Horn of Africa region.
“This project represents one of the most lucrative investment opportunities in our region. Today I invite your members to participate with us in this project,” said Kibaki.
