Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo broke his silence over rifts in the United Republican Party (URP) and said its leadership is autocratic.
Jirongo revealed that party leader and Eldoret North MP William Ruto appears to be sidelining him.
“I have been seeking him for us to sit and discuss party affairs, but he does not pick my calls any more,” Jirongo said.
The MP claimed party affairs are the preserve of a select few who are close to party leadership.
“For instance, issuance of recruitment cards is done selectively and some of us are left wondering whether we still belong to URP yet we are its presidential aspirants,” he said.
ideals
Jirongo added that the party seems to be gravitating towards an individual contrary to the ideals the party subscribes to.
Speaking on Kass FM, Jirongo said they nowadays only bump into each other with Ruto. “Like last week when he was going to Turkana and I to the Coast, we just bumped into each other at Wilson Airport,” he said.
Jirongo added that he was not aware of Ruto’s campaigns in Turkana and the Eldoret North MP was equally not aware he was taking URP campaigns to the Coast.
Jirongo warned that should the party continue with the trend, then it may end up in the opposition after the General Election.
“We do not want the party to belong to someone. We want an all inclusive party where all of us from different parts of the country can feel a sense of belonging,” he said.
friends
Jirongo maintained that they were still friends with Ruto adding that they had no differences that warranted the Eldoret North MP   shunning him.
And when presenters at the station opened up the debate for listeners to contribute, Ruto was among the surprise callers who asked Jirongo to meet him so they could discuss URP matters.
Jirongo further sensationally claimed that there was a plot by political operatives from Mt Kenya to divide any formidable political alliances.
Jirongo alleged that Mt Kenya operatives are fronting Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi for the sole purpose of dividing the Luhya vote. “Now they are on to Eugene Wamalwa. I suspect we in URP are also targeted in this game,” he said.
